Find Out Why Futons Are So Popular

Being versatile, inexpensive and practical, futons have exploded in popularity. Some people are still unsure about what exactly there are though…

Futons are a traditional form of Japanese bedding that consist of comfortable padded mattresses and quilts which can be easily folded and stored when not in use. Since space is often limited in Japan, futons are still widely used in this manner in Japanese homes.

Since their introduction to the West, the use of futons has evolved from just being something to sleep on. They now typically have adjustable frames, which means that as well as beds, they can be used as sofas or chairs.

Their versatility is a major advantage that futons have over other pieces of furniture. As one futon can function in different roles, it means that those who have them do not need to buy as many pieces of furniture as they would otherwise need.

They can be used anywhere, though they are most practical in situations where one wants to save on space or maximize economy. Their ability to convert to a bed, chair of sofa depending on the situation makes them especially ideal for guests or that extra room that sees various uses.

Since futons can be taken apart so easily, they can be moved to different rooms or locations with much less hassle than other furniture, and the cleaning of them is made easier too, as the broken down parts will generally fit inside a standard washing machine.

Futon covers bring both increased versatility and cost savings. The covers can be changed easily and come in an endless variety of colors and designs. This makes it possible to change the look and feel of the room simply by changing a cover. The covers also protect the mattress from stains and other damage.

They are filled / padded with a range of materials, so buyers can get a soft and bouncy one, a hard and firm one, or something in between. Whatever the use in mind, or preference of the buyer, there will be a futon that fits the requirements.

Cotton with wool and / or polyester added is an option, as is a foam filled futon. Being both lightweight and dense, foam offers a comfortable, firm and durable futon – these are probably the most popular ones.

For those consumers who still want the feel of more traditional mattresses, manufactures now offer futons with innersprings. With built in hinges, they can be folded to offer much of the flexibility of a regular futon.

Whichever style and padding is opted for, they usually cost less than comparable furniture, as they are generally less expensive to produce. So, with them being affordable, versatile, and comfortable, futons really make a great addition to any home or office.
