Steps On Putting Up Trim
When you want to create the best trim of a door or window you should always be sure to have the right tools and purchase only products that are of good quality. With the vast array of wood choices this can be overwhelming to some but the secret to a great job completion is precision and patience.
One tool that is very handy when you are cutting wood trim is a miter box. For small jobs that only require a few cuts you can use a miter box with a manual miter saw. If you are working on a large project it is more convenient for you to use an electric compound miter saw. Before you begin making any cuts you want to make sure that you measure it twice, so that you have an accurate measurement, before you begin to cut. If you are unclear on the exact measurement you should always go a little bigger than you think, this way it can be cut again to get the right size. Remember you can always re-cut a piece of wood that is to large, but not one that is too small.
After choosing what type of trim you want, you just need to measure the length of pieces you need. Any home improvement store sells it by the linear foot and can get you the lengths you need. For trimming around doors and windows, the casing looks the same and just has to be cut into three or four sides at 45 degree angles.
After you have all your pieces cut you should lay them out on the ground and place the edges together. Secure each edge with a nail or a staple so that when the frame is lifted into place the edges will stay intact. After you have the frame up you should use a paintable latex caulking to fill in any gaps.
When you are ready to nail your frame to the wall you should do so with a nail gun for a more cleaner and smoother look. After you have installed your frame and finished your caulking you are then ready to paint the trim. If you have used a primed wood you can just choose you paint and start applying, however if you went with a bare wood you will need to prime it before you paint the trim to the color of your liking.
The kitchens are the center of the house, so when you are renovating them, you need to plan it out perfectly before. Maybe you can even start searching through some of those kitchen design books to get some ideas.
