Working Up To Bathroom Remodeling

If you're thinking about a complete transformation of your bathroom then you're also thinking about changing all floor and wall coverings as well as all fixtures and accessories. While you save up for that project, there are small things you can do to improve your bathroom.

A fresh coat of paint is probably the easiest and least costly approach to achieving a more attractive bathroom. Remember to use an eggshell finish that withstands moisture. Also, while thinking of color, you should consider a neutral hue to go with the existing color layout in your bathroom.

Rather than buying towel bars and toilet roll holders that can quickly add up, consider a nice basket or box for the toilet rolls, and an old ladder to hang towels on. A great substitute for the regular towel bar would be a bamboo ladder that you can make by yourself with some string and bamboo sticks.

Depending on the type of look you want your bathroom to have you can use antique trays and bowls as soap dishes and toothbrush holders to achieve a more sophisticated facade, or vividly-colored plastic and metal trays and bowls for a more contemporary style.

Also, you can restore an old bedside table and put it in your bathroom as a vanity closet. As for shelves and cabinets in your bathroom, you can save your money and do without the conventional ones. A good vegetable trolley will work just as well, and the metal ones will fit in nicely with the faucets and other fittings.

You could buy new towels or a new bathroom rug, if you have some cash on your hands. Also, a new set of shower curtains can add to the attractiveness of your bathroom, and you'll have a lot of different models to choose from.

If you want to make your bathroom look a bit more decadent, you can add a mirror with an ornate frame and an old candle holder. Mirrors or mirror tiles usually make a small bathroom seem larger.

When it comes to storage space, or better said lack of it, tall cabinets or a tall set of shelves can work just as well, if not better than a sink cabinet.

Candles, lotions and soaps can be used to add color accents to a bathroom too, and are particularly attractive if they are displayed in a pretty basket.

If you've saved up enough, or budget is not an issue, new fittings such as a bath, vanity and toilet will give your bathroom a brand new look immediately. Installing them is likely to involve new tiling and flooring, too, so you should keep in mind that the services of a competent plumber are needed for this. Rather scrimp on the toilet in order to spend a little more on the vanity and bath. New faucets and shower heads should be the same finish as cabinet pulls and knobs, and the stunning styles available allow you to update your bathroom with ease.

Whether your budget is large or small, there are many ways to improve your bathroom. The cheapest bathroom improvement yet is tidying up the place, which means throwing away all the things you aren't likely to use anymore. The only investment you'll have to make is in cleaning detergents and trash bags, which you most likely already have, and your bathroom will look almost as good as new.
