Selection colors and styles is an exciting prospect, but most people tend not to research the basic components required to up keep their investment.

Check out some of our tips on how to best prepare yourself for this great investment in your home. First up, draw yourself a diagram of the area required. At least this way you can gauge a rough idea on your required quantity before you go shopping for carpets.

The carpet installation process can be carried out by one of two main methods. The first is to use smooth edge. Smooth edge consists of thin plywood strips that are pre-nailed. The smooth edge is then secured around the floor perimeter and is used by the carpet installer to secure the carpet.

Underlay cushion is laid prior to the carpet. The second method is by direct stick. Neither smooth edge or underlay cushion is used rather the carpet is stuck directly to the subfloor. Direct stick carpet is common for office and commercial usage. The cost required to purchase some carpets is often a driving factor for many to ensure maintenance is kept in place long after your installation. Depending on what areas of the home of office is carpeted, professional cleaning is an option to consider around once per year. Your carpet cleaning company can scotch guard your carpet to help protect your floor coverings for another year. Carpet that is well maintained also reduces build up of bacteria and can reduce the effect on allergy sufferers.
