Ideas For Your Girl's Bedroom: Go Beyond The Ordinary

That old nursery rhyme about little girls being made of sugar and spice surely needs to be updated for the 21st century. Little girls still like frilly, but they also like sports, horses, the outdoors, and much, much more.

Before decorating your little girl's bedroom, know her interests, likes and favorites. Ask her to work with you in decorating her bedroom. I'm sure she'll be more than happy to pitch in. Be prepared with a pen and paper for all the things she might excitedly spill out. If your memory needs some sharpening, you'll need to jot down notes, Mom.

There's no need to splurge on decors. In a few years, her interests will probably change again and you don't want to be spending too much for temporary things. Decorating on a budget can also be fun. There are so many options available that even shopping at discount stores bring forth surprisingly nice items.

One theme that you can use is the beach look. This is especially true for a girl who loves to swim and who adores the beach. If your girl is a surfer in the making or a future Baywatch babe, go ahead and paint the walls the beach colors – blue, green, tan, white. Add in some painting effects for the waves and beach images like chaise lounges, beach balls, umbrellas, boats, etc. An area rug in an outdoor color is also a great addition to the decors.

Star light, star bright. This is another well-liked theme because of the feminine and romantic appeal. If your little girl dreams of traveling into space or enjoys staring at the star-filled sky, you can make her bedroom her own star sanctuary. Paint the ceiling a midnight blue with dotted whites as stars or glow in the dark stars. Buy a soft glowing lampshade to make the room as cozy as the star-filled night. An area rug shaped as a star or moon, or a rug that is designed with a night sky theme is perfect!

A popular theme among girls is the fairy tales or fantasy decor. Who hasn't adored fairy tale princesses, magical creatures, fairies, prince charming and other lovely characters in a fairy tale? This is where the soft colors of pastels come in. Light shades are also very much welcome even in the hues of blue or green. You can accent the walls with a painting of the woodland, lake, waterfalls and meadows. An area rug in a romantic pink or other feminine color is an ideal fit.

In relation to fairy tales, you can also transform her bedroom into a fairy tale abode – a castle room or a cottage. An all white bedroom coupled with fancy accessories, lots of drapes and some colorful accents is a realistic look for this theme. Don't forget a big, lush area rug in the center of the room or beside the bed.

Fluttering By: There's no doubt about it: Butterflies are big with little girls. What's more, in the past few years butterflies have become big in home decor as well. That makes it easy to transform your daughter's bedroom into a butterfly sanctuary. Turn her walls into a garden scene with dozens of butterflies and chose butterfly designs for window treatments and bedding and a butterfly area rug for the floor. Here's a nice touch: Get some butterfly hair clips and attach them to her curtains, lampshades and other places.

Home Design experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the girls rugs.
