Decorating Ideas For Your Children's Rooms
There are so many fun activities you can do with your kids. Playing sports, camping, going to the beach and shopping are some of the family favorites. But did you know that decorating is also an enjoyable activity that parents and children can do together? You get to share your ideas and favorites. Why not invite your children to do some decorating work for their bedrooms? I'm sure they'll love the idea of having a "new room" and more importantly, the tempting thought that this time, they're the boss!
Fairy Tale – this is very cute for girls, especially for those who are into the Disney stories of Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Rapunzel and more. Little girls love to be a princess like their heroines in the fairy tale stories. You can transform your daughter's room into her own castle by having drapes around the bed, a fancy crystal chandelier, beddings made of satin and lace and lush futon in the corner of the room. A nicely-decorated lamp by the bed gives the room a soft, fairytale glow.
For boys dinosaurs are adventurous. For a dinosaur room try painting the walls in prehistoric colors! Tans and other earth tones work great in dinosaur bedrooms. You might be able to find some fun dinosaur stencils to paint colorful dinosaurs on the walls. If you can't find stencils don't worry. Photographs and posters of dinosaurs work well too!
Nature – this is ideal for kids who are into the outdoors – beach, mountains, farm, camp, etc. Earth colors work too but dominated by blues and greens to symbolize nature. You can also incorporate the crisp white color reminiscent of the fluffy clouds in the beddings and curtains. Plants in the room add to the natural feel of the room.
Teenagers seem to enjoy rooms that are as colorful as they are. Try decorating their room with old records. You can hang the album covers on the walls. You can also create privacy curtains out of old vinyl records. You can add some cool lights to the room and maybe even a disco ball decoration. You'll get the satisfaction of being the coolest parent on the block. At least for a day!
Music/Movies – this theme can even extend to teenage years. Music is universal and movies are extremely well-liked. If you choose a music theme, it would be nice to have a sound system albeit a simple one to meet the theme. CD or DVD racks, posters, a funky light and comfortable ottomans or settees will make the room the best place to listen to music or to watch movies.
Remember when decorating a child's room that it is important to be practical. Use rugs to cover areas of the floor that tend to get dirty easily. Place a wastebasket in the room and let the child be responsible for emptying it on trash day. Shelving can be helpful in children's rooms as well, since children tend to collect a lot of trinkets. The shelves will help to keep their treasures off the floor and will give the child a place to display their most prized possessions.
Children's Home Design experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the kids bedroom area rugs.
