Superior Product – Mechanical Lawn Edger Critique
This has worked great for a year. Smells like something is burning and it stopped working. After using a trimmer for ten years, this was a blessing to use. The first pass in edging went very smoothly, with no hitches at all.
I've got about 200ft or so of paved surface to edge and I do it every other week during the mowing season (which in this part of Georgia is from March to October basically). I have only had the edger for about 7 weeks and used it 3 times.
Just be careful with it, take your time. Your yard will look great. Better than anticipated. It cuts through sod with ease. I'm not a fan at all of gas powered tools, so I avoid them whenever I can. Last year we moved to a new house on a corner lot, and my battery powered weed whacker was just not up to the task. Because the handle is so long, it has more leverage against the motor housing. This causes the product to have a see-saw effect, and because of that, the product tips over quite a bit, especially with the extension cord attached.
It does what they say it does and no less. It works just fine for edging but I was impressed with the trenching feature.
They could have made the motor housing heavier, which would solve this problem, as well as provide more stability when trimming to ensure a precise cut. The blade guard sticks out too much.
Great doing straight edges but cumbersome when attempting to do curved edges where a stringed edger is so much easier. I bought one of these units many years ago and it lasted a good long time, probably 10 years, and I have quite a bit of sidewalk and driveway to edge. Guides are easy to see and use. Makes a very clean edge. I figured this would be real easy. Wrong I made five passes going slow back and forth and it only cut about 50% of the grass that needed edging. Finally the first unit gave out so I gladly bought a second one. It lasted less than a year before the motor started to wear out.
I purchased this edger based on all of the fabulous ratings here on Amazon. By purchasing it from Amazon, I saved at least $20 bucks. It now has so little power it's useless. I'm shopping for another model now.
I bought this to replace my older B&D edger that lasted me 14 years! Sell Guitars.
